mascara before or after eyelash curler

The general rule is to use the eyelash curler before applying mascara. Here's the reasoning:

  • Easier curling: When the eyelashes are clean and free of mascara, the eyelash curler can grip the lashes more effectively. Mascara can make lashes stiff or clumpy, which might prevent the curler from getting a good hold and achieving a proper curl. If you try to curl your lashes after applying mascara, you risk smudging the mascara, causing it to flake, or even breaking your lashes.
  • Natural curl: Curling before applying mascara allows you to create a natural and smooth curl from the base to the tip of the lashes. You can position the curler close to the lash line and work your way up for a more even and long-lasting curl. Then, when you apply mascara, it will enhance and set the curled shape.
  • Less damage: Applying mascara after curling reduces the chances of damaging your lashes. Mascara-coated lashes are more brittle, and curling them afterward can put additional stress on the lashes, leading to breakage or loss.

However, in some cases, such as when you want a more dramatic or spiky look, you can apply a light coat of mascara first, let it dry slightly, and then use the eyelash curler gently. But this technique requires more skill and caution to avoid the issues mentioned above.
