For beginners, using an eyelash curler can seem a bit tricky, but with the following steps and tips, you'll be able to do it easily:

Preparation

  • Choose the right eyelash curler: There are various types of eyelash curlers available in the market. Select one that suits the shape of your eye. If you have round eyes, a standard curler might work well. For almond-shaped eyes, you may need a curler with a more curved design. Brands like Shu Uemura and Shiseido offer good-quality eyelash curlers.
  • Check the pad: Ensure that the pad of the eyelash curler is in good condition. It should be soft and free from any cracks or damages. A worn-out pad won't curl the lashes effectively and may even damage them.

Curling Process

  1. Sit in a comfortable position: Sit in front of a mirror with good lighting. This will allow you to see your lashes clearly and ensure that you're using the curler correctly.
  2. Open the curler wide: Hold the eyelash curler in your dominant hand and open it wide by squeezing the handle gently.
  3. Position the curler: Look down slightly and place the curler at the base of your upper lashes, as close to the lash line as possible without touching your eyelid. The curler should be parallel to your eye.
  4. Squeeze gently: Slowly squeeze the handle of the curler to clamp down on your lashes. Apply gentle and even pressure. Don't squeeze too hard as this can be painful and may damage your lashes.
  5. Hold for a few seconds: Keep the curler clamped for about 5-10 seconds. As mentioned before, the exact time can depend on your lashes' texture and the curl you want.
  6. Move the curler: Without releasing the pressure, move the curler slightly towards the tips of your lashes and hold for another 3-5 seconds. This will help create a more natural, graduated curl.
  7. Repeat if necessary: If you feel that your lashes need more curling, you can repeat the process. But be careful not to overdo it, as this can make your lashes look unnatural or cause them to break.
  8. Do the other eye: Repeat the same steps for your other eye.

Aftercare

  • Check for evenness: After curling both eyes, check in the mirror to see if the curls are even and symmetrical. If not, you can make small adjustments with the curler.
  • Comb your lashes: Use a clean spoolie brush to gently comb through your lashes. This will separate any lashes that may have stuck together during the curling process and make the curl look more natural.
